-Exelis (NYSE: XLS) has appointed Peter Martin to lead its electronic attack and release systems business on Long Island, New York. In his new position, Martin will apply more than 35 years of expertise in defense, aerospace and the U.S. Air Force to grow the company’s position in key markets.
Martin’s career has spanned a range of functions within Exelis, including program management, manufacturing and technology development. He has been responsible for leading teams that have successfully deployed technology on a wide range of platforms. Examples include the F-35 Lightning II, P-8 Poseidon, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-15 Eagle, B-52 Stratofortress and C-130 Hercules, as well as unmanned aircraft and classified programs.
“Pete has continually demonstrated the exceptional leadership, insight and commitment to our customers that will help advance their missions and our own business objectives,” said Rich Sorelle, corporate vice president and president of Exelis Electronic Systems. “His diverse background and skills allow him to simultaneously strengthen customer relationships, streamline organizational and manufacturing processes, and drive long-term growth for the business in areas like unmanned platforms and next generation technologies.”
Exelis maintains two facilities in Long Island: in Amityville, the company produces electronic warfare technology and carriage and release systems for military aircraft, including unmanned systems. In Bohemia, Exelis focuses on specialized sensors, microelectronics and antennas for commercial, military and space-based applications.
A graduate of the Exelis leadership development program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, Martin holds a green belt in Six Sigma process management and a bachelor of science in business administration and management. Prior to joining Exelis, Martin served as a cryptologic linguist in the U.S. Air Force.
