-Smiths Detection, a global leader in threat detection and security screening technologies, today announces it is supplying Belfast International Airport with the industry-leading HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX carry-on baggage X-ray scanners and the iLane A20SC ATRS, the smart automatic tray return system.
The 3D images produced by the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX will allow passengers to leave liquids and large electronics in their carry-on baggage as they pass through security. Coupled with an automatic tray return system, the technological upgrades will revolutionise the passenger experience at the airport. The systems will be rolled out in line with the UK government’s mandate to introduce computed tomography (CT) X-ray scanners.
In addition to speeding up security, the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX is the most energy-efficient scanner of its type on the market, featuring low noise levels, zero vibration, and a 30% higher belt speed than other CT X-ray scanners – helping to promote a calmer checkpoint. The iLane delivers a steady flow of trays and provides a seamless checkpoint journey by reducing queues and improving operational efficiency at the passenger checkpoints.
Today’s news follows the announcement that VINCI Airports, Belfast International Airport’s owner, will be investing £100m to improve operational efficiency, passenger experience and environmental performance at the airport with the construction of a new security building and upgrades to the passenger terminal.
Andy Evripides, Head of Market NW Europe, Smiths Detection, said, “We’re delighted to begin this partnership with Belfast International Airport to provide them with the leading technology that will enhance security outcomes and improve efficiency for a smoother passenger experience.”
Nabeel Gill, Head of Security Belfast International Airport said, “Belfast International Airport plays a pivotal role for aviation, tourism and the wider local economy. We are committed to sustainably developing the security standards of the airport and increase operational efficiency. This new generation of technology will ensure a safe and efficient experience for our passengers.”
