Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is helping U.S. missile defense pace the threat with the on-time, on-budget delivery of a critical infrared sensor for the first of two satellites in the U.S. Space Force’s Next Gen OPIR Polar program. As the prime contractor for Next Gen OPIR Polar, the company took delivery of the Mission Payload Sensor Subassembly, an Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) sensor that will improve missile warning capabilities by detecting faint heat signatures from ballistic and hypersonic threats. Next Gen OPIR Polar will monitor the Northern Hemisphere around the clock and is essential for achieving total, nonstop polar coverage.

Expert:
James Flynn, program manager, Next Gen OPIR Polar, Northrop Grumman: “The on-time delivery of this sensor isn’t just a checkpoint — it reinforces confidence in the program and advances our commitment to the Next Gen OPIR Missile Warning mission. Our technology is designed to perform in the most demanding no-fail missions, and those who rely on it trust it to deliver every time. We’re keeping the program on track — on schedule, within budget and meeting every critical goal — because national security demands nothing less.”
