Lufthansa Technik to Support Austrian Airlines' 787 Fleet

As with Lufthansa Airlines' Dreamliners, Lufthansa Technik AG will also take over the long-term component supply for Austrian Airlines' Boeing 787 fleet, which is currently being built up. In a recently signed contract, the two companies have agreed on Total Component Support (TCS) for up to eleven long-haul aircraft until the end of 2032.

In addition to the classic MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) of aircraft parts, TCS includes the so-called open-loop component supply from Lufthansa Technik's global parts pool. If Austrian reports a defective component in one of its 787s, the airline does not have to wait for it to be repaired, but receives a ready-to-use replacement part from the Lufthansa Technik pool immediately and as quickly as possible - worldwide. Downtimes of the affected aircraft caused by the parts defect can thus be reduced to a minimum.

Lufthansa Technik has been providing the first services under the new 787 contract since June of this year and is gradually building up a stock of materials for the Dreamliners stationed in Vienna. The TCS is tailored to the needs of the Austrian Airlines 787-9 fleet, which is initially being built up with seven used aircraft and will later be supplemented by currently four factory-new aircraft.

“We have had good experience with TCS for our A320 and 777 fleets for many years,” said Stephan Koenen, Senior Director Engineering & Commercial at Austrian Airlines. “Expanding the range of services to include the Boeing 787 was therefore a logical consequence. With this contract, we are creating a high level of supply security for this aircraft type with an optimized cost position.”

“Due to its large quantities and global deployment, the Boeing 787 is an aircraft type where our Total Component Support can fully play to its strengths,” explained Kai-Stefan Röpke, Vice President Corporate Sales Europe, Middle East and Africa at Lufthansa Technik. “Thanks to our large pool of spare parts, we are able to provide Austrian with the right Dreamliner spare part immediately. And with our 15 parts warehouses around the world, the required component is often just a stone's throw away. This gives Austrian Airlines the best possible component supply for its new Dreamliner fleet.”
