HYDIS Concept Phase Successfully Progress

HYDIS Project held its fifth Consortium Board on 16 April. HYDIS Project is successfully progressing the Concept Phase of the future European interceptor being designed to effectively counter hypersonic threats and medium range ballistic missiles.

2026 is a key year for the Project with both the Industrial Consortium and the Customer Community (OCCAr and the Participating States) fully committed on two main objectives: Freeze the User's Requirements Dossier and down-select from two to one interceptor concept at the Final Concept Review.  Whilst the first milestone will summarize the Participating States' commonly agreed set of requirements and will mark an important achievement of this joint initiative at the Mission Definition Review, the second one will allow the Consortium to focus the maturation activities on the preferred concept during the last months of the Concept Phase.

The Consortium Board Members and their delegates have met on 16 April, hosted by Roxel in Le Haillan (Bordeaux, France), to exchange and align about the important achievements to date as a collective project's effort and to discuss about the key next steps with an optimized project's structuration to maximize the outcome of the Concept Phase to the highest possible extent and to prepare for an effective continuation thereafter – all efforts aiming at the higher purpose of providing this breakthrough capability to European forces in due time.

The interceptor concepts' architectures, and the Weapon Systems main elements supporting it, are well identified and evaluated at the current stage of the Project (as a follow-up of the achievements of the previous milestone, i.e., the Initial Concept Review) and is then key for the Consortium to focus all efforts according to this highlighted technical route.

As a successful practice put in place since the beginning of the Project, the Consortium Board has been held in presence fostering the exchanges opportunities among the project Partners and offering the interesting chance of visiting some of the industrial facility of the hosting Entity.

The European Hypersonic Defence Interceptor System" (HYDIS) is a project co-funded by the European Union, under the European Defence Fund, and by four Participating States (PSs) which are France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. OCCAR has been entrusted by the European Commission (EC) for the indirect management of the action by the signature of a Contribution Agreement. OCCAR, as Contracting Authority, has concluded a contract with the HYDIS consortium to implement the programme, on behalf of EU and the Member States.
