-Garmin (NYSE: GRMN) today announced upcoming Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval of the Cirrus Perspective+™ flight deck upgrade for SR Series G3 and G5 aircraft. The Perspective+ flight deck upgrade offers a number of new and enhanced features, including Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA), stabilized approach advisories, new connectivity options and more. The upgrade will be available for Cirrus SR22T, SR22, and SR20 aircraft equipped with the original Cirrus Perspective® system and is expected to be available in the second half of 2025 through Garmin Authorized Dealers and Cirrus Factory Service Centers. Additionally, select G6 aircraft can incorporate an optional software upgrade and new connectivity options.
Modernized displays, keypad and autopilot controller
Designed as an easy upgrade, new 10- or 12-inch displays leverage the existing panel and offer modern, state-of-the-art multi-core processors supporting smoother panning through the displays and faster map rendering. The Perspective+ upgrade includes a new keypad featuring a QWERTY keyboard that provides a familiar and intuitive layout similar to many modern smart devices, making data entry faster and simpler. The new HOME key instantly brings pilots to the main navigation functions with the touch of a button, while the new autopilot controller incorporates automatic Yaw Damper functionality on appropriately equipped aircraft.
New safety tools and features
The Perspective+ upgrade adds a wide array of cutting-edge technologies to the cockpit. As part of Garmin’s Terminal Safety Solutions, ROA uses ADS-B traffic to alert the crew of potential runway incursions caused by nearby airborne aircraft, aircraft on the ground and ground vehicles. The new stabilized approach advisory system provides visual and aural alerts to the pilot of unstable conditions during an approach, while visual approach guidance can help pilots fly a more precise flight path when cleared for a visual approach. Sectional charts and IFR low/high enroute charts give pilots convenient access to chart data on the multi-function display. When equipped, Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT™) has been upgraded to include a 3D exocentric view of the SafeTaxi® airport environment. Additionally, pilots can take advantage of the new HSI map, flight profile view, glide range ring and more.
Additional connectivity and convenience
To further advance the upgrade, pilots can opt to include additional enhancements for connectivity, Terminal Safety Solutions and more. The optional GDL® 60 datalink allows pilots to connect a compatible EFB app to their avionics to transfer flight plans and stream attitude data, traffic, weather and more. With a PlaneSync™ subscription1, GDL 60 can also automatically update databases and offload flight and engine logs. Additionally, pilots can choose to include the GI 275 standby flight instrument which features a bright, high-resolution, sunlight-readable touchscreen display and includes 60 minutes of backup battery power. To aid situational awareness, optional SurfaceWatch™ runway monitoring technology provides visual and aural cues to help prevent pilots from taking off or landing on a taxiway, on a runway that is too short or on the wrong runway.Taxiway Routing capability is also available to provide automated route guidance on the 2D navigational maps and 3D SVT™ depictions.
Upgrades for select G6 aircraft
In addition to the Cirrus SR Series G3 and G5 upgrades, owners of select 2017 G6 aircraft already equipped with Perspective+ can also take advantage of Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA) and other new features for their cockpit through an optional software upgrade. SurfaceWatch and Taxiway Routing are also available options. Additionally, the GDL 60 datalink can now bring EFB connectivity, automatic database updates and automatic flight log offloading to eligible G6 aircraft with a PlaneSync subscription1.
The Perspective+ flight deck upgrade will be available upon receiving STC through the Garmin Authorized Dealer Network or Cirrus Factory Service Centers for registered aircraft in the United States. Validations are planned for aircraft registered in Europe and Canada. A 2-year warranty on new Garmin hardware is included in the upgrade.
