-Exelis (NYSE:XLS), a global leader in providing critical network solutions, has been awarded a contract by Changi Airport Group Pte. Ltd. to deploy its OSYRIS Pre-Departure Sequence Planner at Singapore Changi Airport. When implemented, the Exelis solution will achieve favorable gate pushback times for all departing aircraft to ensure an optimized departure sequence.
Managing Director of Exelis Orthogon Frank Koehne said: “The OSYRIS Pre-Departure Sequence Planner minimizes aircraft queue lengths and taxiing time to deliver a highly predictable flow of traffic to the runways. It achieves this while considering the operational constraints on the airport surface and in the surrounding airspace. Ultimately, we look forward to improving passenger and airline satisfaction by ensuring more predictable departure schedules and fewer airport delays."
Changi Airport, the sixth busiest airport for international traffic in 2014, is adopting Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) to enhance airport airside flow and capacity management. The A-CDM concept partners airport and aircraft operators, ground handlers, air traffic control and network operations to work more efficiently and transparently and to share data. This results in overall airport system efficiency, predictability and punctuality of traffic movements.
“The OSYRIS Pre-Departure Sequence Planner is a major stepping stone toward the implementation of A-CDM concept in Changi Airport,” said Yeo Kia Thye, senior vice president, airport operations planning and airside for Changi Airport Group. “We selected Exelis for its market-leading air traffic optimization solutions that will help us further improve the coordination of the aircraft ground movement to achieve better flight punctuality for the airlines and passengers.”
Changi Airport handled a record 54.1 million passengers in 2014 and was voted the “World’s Best Airport” at the 2013 and 2014 Skytrax World Airport Awards. Exelis acquired the Orthogon business, based in Bremen, Germany, from Barco NV in August 2014. Exelis Orthogon’s air traffic queue management solutions are used by customers to manage air traffic operations at some of the world’s busiest airports including those in London, Gatwick, Singapore, Istanbul, Hong Kong, and Zurich and Doha.
