-CopaSAT, a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced that is has received a contract to provide the U.S. Coast Guard with managed satellite services to Coast Guard Cutter Healy and Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star. The contract started 1-October for a term of five years.
HEALY is designed to conduct a wide range of research activities, providing more than 4,200 square feet of scientific laboratory space, numerous electronic sensor systems, oceanographic winches, and accommodations for up to 50 scientists. HEALY is designed to break 4 ½ feet of ice continuously at three knots and can operate in temperatures as low as -50 degrees F. The science community provided invaluable input on lab layouts and science capabilities during design and construction of the ship.
POLAR STAR is a United States Coast Guard Heavy Icebreaker. POLAR STAR is one of the largest ships in the US Coast Guard and one of the world's most powerful non-nuclear ships. The POLAR STAR is home ported in Seattle, Washington.
