-Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ:CMTL) announced today that, during its third quarter of fiscal 2015, its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., received a $1.1 million order for satellite communications equipment and services. The equipment will be used by one of the largest pan-regional mobile network operators (MNOs) to upgrade and significantly expand its infrastructure throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The CDM-625A platform was chosen for the network expansion due to its spectral efficiencies and its ability to best support traffic optimization at data rates for GSM cell phone backhaul traffic. The CDM-625A leverages the VersaFEC-2 Forward Error Correction and Modulation technique along with the DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression technology and 5% carrier roll-off to provide the highest Mbps/MHz ratios in the industry. The VersaFEC-2 coding method was purpose-designed to avoid the latency penalty associated with the DVB-S2X standard for medium rate aggregation links. By providing 80-90% less latency than the standard, VersaFEC-2 allows more efficiency for typical applications.
Also included in the solution suite are Comtech EF Data’s High-Power Outdoor Solid-State Power Amplifiers. This outdoor equipment is rugged and weatherproof – able to withstand harsh environments. These RF systems provide the performance, flexibility and field-proven reliability that is crucial when deploying into extremely remote sites. All equipment within the order is capable of being managed by the Comtech EF Data NetVue™ Integrated Management System, which provides the level of network insight required to run optimal networks.
“The market-leading, intelligent optimization techniques of our solution suite create the economics that enable mobile network operators across the globe to provide reliable connections to the most remote locations cost-effectively,” commented Dr. Stanton Sloane, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. “We are pleased that our solution suite will facilitate the network expansion so this MNO can continue to support remote consumers within the DRC.”
