-Modernising and transforming the British military cannot happen overnight. Its ultimate success or failiure will be determined by the days and months that our technologists will spend close to the problems at hand, evaluating new solutions and thinking through new ways of how to quickly build up combat power. Here in Wales, we are developing that next frontier of advanced technologies for our sovereign defence — Anduril UK is building a testbed for globally competitive autonomy.
At our site, Anduril UK tests a suite of artificial intelligence-powered products for our military use, pushing reconnaissance, command-and-control, and targeting capabilities to their limits. We design them in country, to match our national need. Several of these sovreign capabilities are actively flying in the Welsh countryside while they are evaluated by our engineers. Every test is an opportunity to work out new problems right here, so that our platforms work for the expeditionary warfighter out there.
Every technnology evaluation we conduct is part of our core mission: strengthening and securing our defence. Anduril UK has already invested more than 40 percent of our internal revenue and capital into research and development to upscale military technology, including millions alone for the strategically vital autonomy sector. We feel there is a generational opportunity to strengthen our sovereign protection, create meaningful, lasting employment, and drive economic growth, but it must be harnessed through these mechanisms of investment.
Anduril UK has worked within the British defence industrial base for some time. It’s now up to us to seize the potential to scale that participation far further. The nation has all the talent, skill, and ingenuity we need to achieve superior results and battle-proven defence technology. Now we must all choose to harness it.
We’re determined in our belief that building the factories of the future begins right here and right now. It is clear that British military strength must be forged and refined by a generation of technologists prepared to do their part. Anduril’s UK operation is already approaching 100 highly skilled employees, and we’re growing rapidly. Our goal is grow this number significantly — in short order — through investing in industrial capacity and the workforce needed to build it.
But we also know that this job is too large for any one company to complete alone. Anduril UK is one component of a growing ecosystem that will create thousands of quality jobs for talented individuals who are interested in advancing our nation’s protection. We intend to be active partners with many other parts of that ecosystem, multiplying and building on our shared strength.
The war in Ukraine demonstrates the clear need for the United Kingdom to solidify and accelerate domestic mass production. As we call upon the best of British technology to build anew, we will also invest into the industrial engine and workforce that can make that technology real and enduring.
This investment is only possible because of the people who make it so. The UK is a global leader in technology. Our world-class professionals are eager to work in service of consequential missions. We want the best engineers working on the hardest problems all in service of sharpening our national warfighting skills.
The threats to our security and to our values will not wait. A new fleet of autonomous weapons that are more agile, more precise, more producible, and more effective than those in our adversaries’ arsenals are needed to maximise our defences against them. The solution is clear: it must be designed by our talent, constructed in our factories, and tested in our skies. This process starts with test engineers in Wales, but it extends to all over Britain: in key defence infrastructure, in technology labs, and through our supply chains and SMEs. It is through these means that we can preserve a generation of peace and prosperity.
To defend British interests, Anduril UK stands ready.
